In
Support of ABA Proposed Standard for Procedures in Drug Treatment Courts
WHEREAS, the Conference
of Chief Justices recognizes the increasing number of drug treatment courts
being established nationwide; and
WHEREAS, the Judicial
Division of the American Bar Association has developed Proposed Standard
2.77, Procedures in Drug Treatment Courts; and
WHEREAS, the standard
is proposed to ensure that substance abuse treatment is ordered and implemented
on the basis of adequate information, in accordance with applicable law,
and with due regard for the rights of the individual and of the public;
and
WHEREAS, the proposed
standard incorporates the 10 Key Components, which define drug treatment
courts, as published by the Drug Courts Program Office, U. S. Department
of Justice; and
WHEREAS, the proposed
standard will assist state courts that are developing and implementing
drug treatment courts;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE
IT RESOLVED that the Conference supports the adoption of Proposed Standard
2.77, by the ABA.
Adopted as proposed
by the Task Force on Problem-Solving Courts of the Conference of Chief
Justices in Baltimore, Maryland on January 25, 2001.
