In Support of Producing a Pictorial History of State Courts
of Last Resort
WHEREAS, state supreme courts serve as the court of last resort and the highest judicial authority in each state and territory; and
WHEREAS, state supreme court buildings and courtrooms serve as symbols of justice and the judicial branch of state government; and
WHEREAS, the facilities of state supreme courts are landmarks of historical significance; and
WHEREAS, while pictorial compilations of state capitols and governor?s mansions exist, a similar collection for state supreme court facilities has not been produced; and
WHEREAS, production of a pictorial history of state courts of last resort would enhance the prestige of the judiciary while fostering civic pride and engagement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Conference of Chief Justices requests the National Center for State Courts to prepare a pictorial history of the facilities of state courts of last resort;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Conference encourages each of its members to cooperate with this project by providing photographs of its supreme court facility together with a brief narrative history of that facility.
